Some of the species include lacewood, curly maple, Olive burel, maple burel, bloodwood, cocobolo, Ebony, bocote, kingwood, rosewood and curly cherry.
I have made a couple of these wooden gear clocks.  I love clocks and wood. What better combination than an all wood clock. These two are  lacewood and curly cherry with maple burl, ebony, cocobolo and bloodwood gears. Except for the lead shot in the weights and brass winding pins, they are made entirely of  wood. They run for 24 hours per winding, have hour, minute and second hands and are accurate to within a minute a week. The one on the left is in my office and although visitors somtimes are distracted by the ticking, I find it relaxing.
